End user license agreement
Petrichor & Peonies Cookbook Studio. Last updated October 23, 2026.
In short: you may install the app on up to three of your computers and use it to make as many books as you like, which you own and may sell. The free phone app and the online Recipe Box are optional, and only your Recipe Box goes online if you turn them on. The app is in beta, so keep backups and order a printed proof. Please don’t share your key, copy the app, or pull the included artwork out to use somewhere else. The full terms below are what apply.
This End User License Agreement (“Agreement”) is between you and Petrichor Pages LLC (“we”, “us”). It covers the Petrichor & Peonies Cookbook Studio desktop software for Mac and Windows, the Petrichor & Peonies Recipe Box phone app, their included themes, templates, artwork and fonts, and any updates we provide (together, the “Software”), and the optional online Recipe Box described in section 5 (the “Online Recipe Box”). By installing, activating or using the Software, you agree to this Agreement. If you don’t agree, don’t install or use the Software.
1. License
The Software is licensed, not sold. Subject to this Agreement and payment of the purchase price, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the desktop software to create cookbooks, recipe cards, documents and related materials, for personal or commercial purposes, for as long as you follow this Agreement.
The phone app is free to download. It works only with a valid license key, and you may use it on any phones you own or control to add recipes to your own Recipe Box.
2. Ownership
We and our licensors own the Software and all intellectual property rights in it. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved.
3. License keys and devices
- Each license key may be active on up to three (3) computers at a time, unless your purchase says otherwise. You can free a computer’s place from the License menu in the app. Phones signed in to the phone app don’t count toward this limit.
- Activation needs an internet connection the first time. After that the desktop software works offline. When your computer is online, the Software may check the key in the background.
- Your key is for you (or your business) only. Don’t share, publish or resell it.
- We may deactivate keys that were refunded, charged back, shared publicly or used in breach of this Agreement. A deactivated key stops working the next time the Software starts. It never stops in the middle of your work.
4. Your content
Your recipes, text, photos, books and everything else you create with the Software belong to you. We claim no ownership of them, and you may publish and sell them.
Your books and photos are stored on your own computer. We don’t receive, review or store them, except for the Recipe Box recipes and photos you choose to keep in the Online Recipe Box (section 5).
You’re responsible for having the rights to everything you put into the Software, including photos, illustrations and recipes taken or adapted from other sources.
5. The Online Recipe Box and the phone app
- It’s optional. The Online Recipe Box is off until you turn on “Sync this Recipe Box” in the desktop app or sign in to the phone app. Your books never go online, only your Recipe Box.
- What we store. While it’s on, we store a copy of your Recipe Box recipes and their photos so they can appear on your phone and your other computers. We store them only to provide the Online Recipe Box, and you give us permission to store, copy and send them for that purpose alone.
- Limits. Each license includes up to 5 GB of photos and 5,000 recipes in the Online Recipe Box. We may change these limits with notice.
- Erasing it. You can erase your online copy at any time with “Erase the online copy” in the desktop app or “Erase my online Recipe Box” in the phone app. This deletes the recipes and photos we store and signs out your phones. The copies on your computers stay where they are.
- It isn’t a backup. The Online Recipe Box keeps your devices in step, so a recipe you delete or change on one device is deleted or changed on the others. Keep your own backups of your books and Recipe Box.
- Refunds and deactivated keys. A refunded, charged-back or deactivated key stops syncing. We may delete its online copy 90 days later.
- Fair use. Only upload recipes and photos you have the right to use. Don’t upload anything unlawful, use the Online Recipe Box to store or share files unrelated to your recipes, try to reach anyone else’s data, or overload or interfere with the service.
- Changes to the service. The Online Recipe Box is provided as part of the Software for as long as we offer it. We may change, suspend or end it. If we end it, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice by email or in the app where we reasonably can, and the recipes already on your computers won’t be affected.
6. Beta software
The Software is in beta. It’s ready to make real cookbooks, and we’re still improving it. While it’s in beta, you may run into bugs, and features may be added, changed or removed in updates. Save your work often, keep automatic backups turned on, and check your exported files carefully. If something doesn’t work as you expect, email us and we’ll help.
7. Included themes, artwork and fonts
- You may use the included themes, templates, illustrations and ornaments in books and materials you create with the Software, including ones you sell.
- You may not extract the included artwork or templates and sell, share or distribute them on their own, include them in other templates, design kits or software, or use them in trademarks or logos.
- The fonts included with the Software are open-source fonts licensed under their own terms, mostly the SIL Open Font License, which are included with the Software. Nothing in this Agreement limits the rights those licenses give you.
8. Restrictions
Except as this Agreement or applicable law expressly allows, you may not:
- copy, modify, translate or create derivative works of the Software;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software;
- bypass, disable or interfere with license activation or checks;
- rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense or redistribute the Software;
- access or use the Online Recipe Box except through the Software;
- remove or alter any copyright or other notices in the Software; or
- use the Software to build a competing product.
9. Updates
We may provide updates, but we’re not required to. When your computer is online, the desktop software checks for updates and downloads them in the background. A downloaded update installs when you restart the app, or the next time you quit it. Phone app updates come through the App Store. Updates are covered by this Agreement unless they come with their own terms. Future major versions or add-ons may be sold separately.
10. Printing and publishing
The Software is designed to produce files that meet common print-on-demand requirements, but every printer and platform sets its own rules. Before you publish or order a print run, review your files and order a printed proof. We don’t guarantee that any printer, marketplace or platform will accept your files, and we aren’t responsible for printing costs, reprints or rejected submissions.
11. Recipes and food safety
The Software is a design tool. We don’t review or test the recipes you enter. You’re responsible for the accuracy of your recipes, cooking times and temperatures, allergen information and any food safety or nutrition statements in your books.
12. Your information
- Licensing. To activate and check your license, the Software sends your license key and a random identifier created for your computer to our license server.
- Online Recipe Box. If you turn it on, we also store your Recipe Box recipes and photos, and a record of which devices are signed in. If you sign in to the phone app with your email address, we use it to send you a one-time sign-in code. This data is stored with our hosting provider, Cloudflare, and code emails are sent through our email provider, Resend.
- Purchases. When you buy, our payment processor collects your email address and payment details, and we use your email to send your key and support messages.
The Software doesn’t send your books or any other content, and we don’t sell your information or use it for advertising. See our Privacy Policy for details.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Software and the Online Recipe Box are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don’t warrant that the Software or the Online Recipe Box will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that they will keep your files safe. Please keep backups of your work.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, printing or reprinting costs, or business interruption, arising from your use of the Software or the Online Recipe Box. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the Software in the twelve (12) months before the claim.
Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
15. Termination
This Agreement ends automatically if you break it. When it ends, you must stop using the Software and delete your copies, and we may erase your Online Recipe Box. Books and materials you already created remain yours.
16. If you got the phone app from Apple’s App Store
- This Agreement is between you and us, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the phone app and its content.
- Your license to the phone app is limited to using it on Apple devices you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the phone app.
- If the phone app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund any price you paid for it (the phone app is free). To the extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for it.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims about the phone app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection claims, and claims that it infringes someone else’s intellectual property.
- You confirm that you aren’t located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a “terrorist supporting” country, and that you aren’t on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this Agreement and may enforce it against you as it relates to the phone app.
17. Governing law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, USA, without regard to its conflict of laws rules. If you live outside the United States, you keep any consumer protection rights that the law of your home country gives you.
18. Changes
We may update this Agreement from time to time. We’ll post the new version on this page with a new date. If you keep using the Software after a change, the updated Agreement applies.
